How REFIT began

My name is Edwin Ozimek and I am the man behind the REFIT brand. Its story goes back to the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. At that time I was working as a physiotherapist in the rehabilitation department of the Centre for Elite Sport at Charles University in Prague.

Members of the national team told me in amazement how the American sprinters, led by Carl Lewis, used a barrel of ice water to help their muscles recover. I was so taken with the idea that I introduced this method, cryotherapy, at our centre straight away, and the results were truly astonishing. I wanted to make it available to as many people as possible.

I spent almost ten years developing a product that uses cold to support fast recovery. That is how the original, protected formula came about, launched in 1998 under the name REFIT ICE GEL.
